Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Vegan Pesto

This is surprising easy, especially when using a blender.  I used my nutri-bullet for this job but a food processor would also work.  Failing that if you have neither a pestle and mortar would work, it would just give you a thicker consistency and bigger muscles!  This is great to make in batches and i store in small portions in the freezer and can grab out what i need when i need it. 

So when i was in full swing on my elimination diet and i was always on the look out for ways to get flavour and taste into my diet. When we have eliminated so many ingredients out of my diet it can be tricky. Vegan cheese is out on some elimination diets as i have eliminated coconut and soya, and also cashew nuts too, and I love pesto so back to the drawing board and I’m making my own.

Vegan Home Made Pesto

  • 2 bunches of fresh basil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 good pinch of sea salt
  • 1 good gulg of olive oil
  • 3 tbsp of pine nuts


  • take the ingredients and pop them into a blender or nutribullet. Blitz them together and taste and adjust where necessary to suit.
  • I put mine into little freezer bags and froze into small portions ready to take out when needed to use on pasta, salad dressings, dips etc.
  • if you want to add vegan cheese etc depending on your dietary requirements please do.
